This article was written by Stephen Cripe and printed in The Grateful Dead fanzine Unbroken Chain issue #47 in March 1994.
Theresa McFarlane: Unbroken Chain came out with an article. Steve brought it home and he showed it to me [and said] “Well, they said they thought this was another Irwin guitar.” I said, “What, you’re kidding me.” So, I grabbed the magazine and said, “Well that’s just not gonna do it.” He said, “Oh don’t worry about it, so what.” I said, “What do you mean, so what? You built this guitar; you deserve the credit for this.” So, I got in touch with Unbroken Chain, and I said, “Yo, you need to print a retraction. This is not an Irwin guitar, this is a Cripe guitar. So, the very next issue that came out they apologized and everything … and printed Steve’s article. It was really sweet of her to do. It was a woman editor [Laura Paul Smith].
